Tell us a little about yourself? Hobbies and whatnot.
* Well, my name is Daniel, and I live in the middle of goddamn nowhere. Seriously, this state has less people in it than Rhode Island, and we’re about a billion times its size. I hope the irony isn’t lost on you, because it’s killing me, haha. As far as hobbies, obviously I used to be heavily into e-fedding, but now that I’m out of it, my hobbies are music, art, card games, video games, and video-making. I’m so into YouTube right now that I think it’s bordering on unhealthy, but hey, I’m entertaining people and making some pocket change, so why not?
How did you get into Fantasy Wrestling?
* If I recall correctly, my buddy Frank Washington started an e-fed called the Extreme Championship Federation (or ECF), and he was wondering, since he knew I was into wrestling, if I wanted to join and try it out. I said, “Fuck it, why not?” – maybe not in so many words, but you know what I mean – and I was hooked right away. Like any fan of wrestling, I always had that daydream of, “If I were a wrestler and I could be a far cooler, far more talent, far more popular version of myself, how would that work out?”, and e-fedding obviously opened the door for that.
How long are or were you efedding?
* About three-plus years, something like that. I started in the fall of 2007, and I believe I got out somewhere in 2010, so somewhere in the neck of three years.
What type of Fantasy Wrestling Roleplaying style do you prefer? (Match, Promo, Game/Sim etc)
* ECF started out as a match-based ‘fed, but I soon joined WWH (World Wrestling Headquarters) and that was a promo-based ‘fed. Between the two that I’ve thoroughly experienced, I’d say promo-based ‘feds were my preference. I mean, I could write matches all day, but eventually, my ego would set in and I’d make myself look more awesome than I could warrant. Not that it ever happened in ECF, but it might’ve if they didn’t switch over to a promo ‘fed after a while, haha.
Did you have any difficulty learning your preferred style during your first time doing it?
* It was a bit shaky, yeah. I won my first few matches when I got to WWH (which was my first taste of promo-based writing), but then I got on this horrible losing streak that I didn’t break until sometime a month or two later, and things kinda took off from there. I started writing more in-depth and making my character more than just some one-dimensional hunk of bland, and that went a long way in making everything I did better.
What was the first E-fed that you joined called? Describe your time there.
* ECF was my very first ‘fed. It was great and I met a lot of great people, but one of the “co-founders” (in reality just the guy that Frank Washington had picked to run the site with him), Debolt Dragonsbane, was kind of an asshole. I mean, he could RP a great heel boss, but the problem was that half the time he wasn’t going over shit with other people when it involved their characters. Great example of that – there was an angle he wanted to do where he and his stable (I think it was called Demolition, Inc. or something to that effect) would kidnap my manager/girlfriend Krystal Ramone (who I really just implemented to give my character a manager), which I said “no” to. I mean, his whole stable was heels, he was a heel, and I was a heel. What purpose would a heel antagonizing a heel have? Was he trying to turn me babyface, which I DID NOT wanna do? I told him “no”, but he went ahead and did it anyway, but since I was a new guy and I didn’t wanna ruffle feathers, I swallowed the pill and just went along with the angle, lame and unnecessarily drawn-own and confusing and stupid though it was. Other than Dragonsbane being a dick (and eventually getting kicked out of the ‘fed), ECF was good. Everyone else shared ideas and helped each other out and it was a grand ol’ time.
What are your favorite promotions? Either Efed or Real Life Feds are fine and rank your top five if you want.
* The only two places I was in for any significant amount of time were ECF and WWH, and WWH longer than ECF. Anywhere else, either the management was incompetent, the whole place was an activity dead-zone, or I just couldn’t keep up. Full Metal Wrestling was definitely the last one. Lots of fantastic RPers there, but they have such deep character development it’s more like watching an episode of Heroes in that place than reading anything for an e-fed. But that’s just how they do it there, and I couldn’t adapt well enough. I just can’t do that style where I do such deep character development that the fact that the whole thing is supposed to be for a wrestling e-fed becomes pretty much irrelevant.
Who was your first character? If you remember.
* My first and longest character was my main character, originally named after myself (Daniel Hutchinson), but I eventually changed his name to “Jason Krow”. Turns out “Hutchinson” doesn’t really sound all that intimidating, especially for the kind of character I wanted to put forth, heh.
How Many Characters did you control?
* I think, on average, I only had one or two at a time. I’m not that great of a multitasker or a character juggler. Anymore than two or three, tops, and I can’t keep up with them all. Obviously Jason (and my other active wrestler characters) would get the priority, and eventually my non-wrestlers would get lost in the shuffle. That’s why I can’t understand how a couple people I’d met in WWH (especially a girl named Kristi, who controlled Andy Rhodes, Lucky Lawliet, and fuck-knows-how-many others) could have four and five and six and seven different characters and not have them all be lost in the shuffle of this character clusterfuck they seem to create.
How many Championships have you held during your career efedding? If you remember.
* Is it sad I had to look up my E-Wrestling Wikia page for this one? Haha. It’s been that long. But 9 distinct championship belts, with a total of 16 individual reigns across all of them. Just speaking of top-tier “world” titles, I’ve held 5 distinct championship belts with a total of 10 individual reigns across all of them.
What was the first championship that you won?
* First championship was the ECF World Tag Team Championship, which I won along with Frank Washington. If I remember correctly, Frank and I had just had a match the week before, and the whole kayfabe thing was that Debolt Dragonsbane put us in a tag title match against his two heavies in Demolition, Inc. with the idea that we wouldn’t be able to get along (me being a heel and him being a face-tendency tweener – being a tweener in e-fedding is such a cop-out, by the way, but I digress), but we ended up winning the belts together. First team in the ‘fed’s history to hold that gold, too.
Did you make any friends in Efedding? Keep in contact with them?
* Yeah, I mentioned a girl named Kristi, and there’s also Ray, Shawn (he was another one who had a shit-ton of characters, very willing to help me out so many times), Kayla (she’s controlled characters who acted as my manager on a couple of occasions), and a few others. I haven’t heard from Kristi or Shawn in so long. Ray I still talk to, and Kayla I talk to once in a while since we’re following each other on Twitter. @JerseyDevilDH, by the way. Cheap plug. Sue me.
Who are your favorite rpers? Why?
* I think Shawn (he’s controlled characters like Zane Strident and a ton of others) is one of my favorites. He knows how to capture the mood and the ambience of a character just so perfectly it’s almost unfair to whoever he’s up against. Very smart and articulate writer. Kristi’s also a favorite – her characters are fun to read and there’s almost never a dull moment with her writing.
Is there anyone you want to face in the near future?
* Adrian Hart, the guy who runs WWH. If I were to ever come back to e-fedding for any reason, it’d be to face him. And we’d for sure have to get some neutral parties to judge the RP’s in that one.
Have you ever dealt with Drama during your time?
* Oh yeah. So many times in WWH – I was there the longest, and unfortunately, aside from any Dragonsbane bullshit in ECF, that’s where ALL of the drama I’ve ever seen in e-fedding happened in my experience – but so many times in WWH, there were times when Adrian was overstepping his bounds or just doing shit that was flat-out ridiculous (making all of his characters invincible X-Men rejects, having two wives for himself in-character, etc.), and I called him out on it like so many people did. Fun fact – Adrian Hart once mandated (and I think it’s still one of the WWH rules) that someone couldn’t join as Jesus Christ, as a JOKE, because – and this was the EXACT REASON – Jesus would be more powerful than Adrian Hart, and that just couldn’t happen. For fuck’s sake, I’m an atheist (which means I think the whole idea of a supernatural, all-knowing, all-powerful superbeing watching our every move is nothing but a symphony of bullshit) and even I thought that was pathetic. I don’t care that you own the ‘fed, and I don’t even care that you think a wrestling company run by X-Men style mutants that are all the descendants of Jean Grey (and I wish I was making that up) makes absolute perfect sense, but more powerful than Jesus? Jesus, a motherfucker who walked on water and turned water into wine and a bunch of other neat parlor tricks? And I guess there was that whole dying-for-your-sins, conquering-death thing, too. I think you get the point.
What is your opinion of the "E-fed Community"?
* It’s great that there are so many other people you can brainstorm with and share stuff with and get to know across different e-feds. Specific e-feds might have better and more lively communities than others, but the overall community was always great to peruse around and just meet people.
Have you ever made any regrets in fantasy wrestling?
* Not just metaphorically bitch-slapping Debolt Dragonsbane and quitting ECF right when he started the ridiculous kidnapping angle I told him I didn’t wanna do in the first place.
How long do you plan on efedding? If you are still doing it that is.
* Not doing it anymore, haha.
Do you have any advice for those who want to get into Fantasy Wrestling?
* Don’t be a doormat. There’s a difference between having respect for your superiors and just being a bitch to everyone for fear of rubbing people the wrong way. Great, wonderful, have respect for the people above you, and don’t be a cocky asshole when you’ve been around pretty much for a cup of coffee, but if you have a legitimate gripe and you have a real reason to bring it up, then open your mouth and say something.
--Character Questions--
Who is your favorite and/or most popular character that you have controlled?
* Jason Krow, for sure.
Any RL Wrestlers that inspired your character?
* Jimmy Jacobs (obviously, since he was the picture base for a lot of my run when I really had a better idea of who the character was), CM Punk, Edge, and Triple H definitely served as heavy inspiration. Chris Hero also provided inspiration from time to time, as well as Nigel McGuinness.
Describe The Characters Personality.
* I think Jason Krow, in the end, is just a loner. I mean, I’ve had him lead stables from time to time, as an e-fedder is often to do, because from time to time, you want to collaborate with people and do some cool stuff, but Jason Krow is a lone wolf, in every sense of the word. I think it was because of his horrid upbringing and constantly being hurt by the people he trusted, so that emotionally stunted him to the point that he’d almost instantly be crass and cruel to anyone he met, so he could hurt them before they could hurt him. He wasn’t going to let anyone hurt him ever again. He would use people and work with people when he had to, but in the end, he’s one of those guys who would just as soon stab you in the back as look at you.
What would the characters Custom Attire look like? In terms of colors, appearance, etc?
* Just look at Jimmy Jacobs during his Age of the Fall run and you have it pretty much in a nutshell. Dark attire with wild, harsh patterns that represent the instability of Krow’s mind and emotions.
Nicknames?
* “The Sinister Supernova” – basically, “Sinister” describing his cruel and black-hearted demeanor, and “Supernova” describing his desire to have everything, to be a star, to be that guy that blows up, even if he has to destroy everything around him in the blast that follows. And he really doesn’t care if you get caught in that blast – in fact, it’s better if you do, because that’s just one less person to deal with, right
Best Aspect?
* His intelligence, the ability to target and exploit weaknesses or insecurities.
Worst Aspect?
* His anger issues and extremely short fuse.
Describe your characters Wrestling Style.
* I’d call it “South Jersey Strongstyle” – there’s heavy influence from Japanese strongstyle, since that’s where Jason was trained by the likes of The Great Muta, and it’s mixed with a lot of streetfighting and just dirty brawling, the kind of tactics that you’d have to employ to keep yourself from getting killed in a dangerous streetfight with no rules. Trust me, there’s a lot of places in New Jersey that had a lot of crime and muggings and drug deals, so that kind of shit was bound to happen. And so, Jason would have to know how to survive in that environment, and that, mixed with the Japanese strongstyle, created “South Jersey Strongstyle”.
What is your characters finisher(s)?
* I had three finishers for Jason – the Shining Wizard (as done by The Great Muta), the Shadow of Death (a wrenching guillotine choke), and the Kiss-2-Kill (a cross-armed scoop brainbuster).
Pick a weapon that relates to your character and tell us how.
* I think I’d say barbwire – I talked about Jason being very cruel and harmful to anyone who comes near him, and I think barbwire is really the same way, since you get hurt just by touching it if you just haphazardly grab at it.
Did the character work well with others?
* Oh hell no. See the above “lone wolf” schpeel, haha.
Did he have a Manager/Valet/Enforcer?
* Tons. It changed from month to month, sometimes, because the handlers would either disappear or decide to do something different, or maybe I wanted to go in a different direction.
Any Relationships?
* Jason’s had relationships with the likes of Lucky Lawliet, Amy Roucka, Krystal Ramone, Amanda Cortez, and Mari Annette, to name a few.
What is your characters preferred match type?
* Anything hardcore, anything that removes the strict boundaries and rules of a regular match and lets Jason do whatever is necessary to win.
Who did you enjoy feuding with the most with the character?
* My favorite feud with Jason was probably with Dominick Starr. We collaborated so well on that feud and everything clicked together just right. It was Jason Krow, the selfish and egocentric (almost to the point of self-worship) heel champion, against Dominick Starr, the young up-and-coming babyface who had a ton of potential but was written off by Krow as being nothing but a kid who looked good on the poster, and that was it. That was something that Krow had a thing of doing – classifying “pretty boy” competitors as being members of WWH’s “Pretty Boy Division” – the kind of guys that, in his mind, should have been advertising AĆ©ropostale, not pro wrestling. Dominick, in the storyline sense, looked to disprove that, and the way it worked out, he came off looking like a strong babyface who really gave Jason a run for his money.
How many championships has the character won?
* See the above answer I provided for championships won, then subtract one from the total championship reigns (I won WWH’s International Champion once as another character named Lucas Burchill) and one from the world championship reigns (I was the WWH ECW World Heavyweight Champion once as Christopher Mason). So 15 individual championship reigns across 9 belts, and, out of that, 9 individual reigns across 5 “world” tier belts.
What was the first title you have earned with the character?
* The ECF World Tag Team Championship with Frank Washington.
Did it earn any honors? (Hall of Fame, etc...)
* All of the none-belt-based honors were in WWH: WWH Hall of Heroes (Class of 2008), 4th Triple Crown Champion, Grand Slam Champion, 3rd Ultimate Champion (having literally won every available championship at the time), WWH Best Male Champion (2009), WWH Jerk of the Year (2009), and WWH Best Feud (2009, v.s. Dominick Starr). Jason Krow was also E-Wrestling Wikia’s “Featured Wrestler” in 2008.
Between the mainstream companies and the independents, where do you think your character will fit?
* Definitely mainstream. Jason Krow’s ego won’t allow him to work nothing but indy shows, haha.
Describe how you would retire the character.
* If I had the choice and the motivation, I’d do something where I could go out big. I’d want Jason Krow to become the world champion of whatever promotion, and have a strong, strong run. I mean, just looking like a great villainous champion that couldn’t be stopped, and then you take the best up-and-coming babyface character in the company, someone you think could take the ball and run with it for a long time, and you make a great match where Jason is beaten soundly, and beaten clean, by said babyface, after a great, great match. I would want something like that where he would go out with a bang and “pass the torch”, so to speak.
--Random Questions--
Do you watch wrestling anymore? What's your opinion on the mainstream companies now compared to the time you first saw WWE or TNA?
* Yeah, I still watch WWE. Their image and their product has changed so much since I saw them in the Attitude Era, and yeah, the quality has slipped a bit because they seem to have lost any sense of real long-term booking, but it’s still enjoyable. And they have their flashes of brilliance, like with the recreation of the Summer of Punk angle on the WWE stage. TNA, I refuse to watch anymore. Back when they started, I wanted them to succeed and provide competition for WWE, I really, really did. But between giving the spotlight and the bloated paychecks to ex-WWE/ex-WCW talent and the inconsistent booking and the logic holes and the overpromotion of things like The Jersey Shoes and MMA promotions and the underpromotion of their own product and the fact that the likes of Bischoff and Russo and Hogan have jobs AT ALL, I can’t stand it anymore. Austin Aries is the only thing that makes me tune in for any reason, and it’s ONLY to watch him. But then again, the problem has almost never been with the talent, it’s with the creative team and that stupid bass-ackwards bitch Dixie Carter, who wouldn’t know how to properly run a wrestling promotion with her parents’ money if it bit her in the ass.
Favorite Wrestler(s)?
* CM Punk in WWE, Austin Aries in TNA, Kevin Steen/Chris Hero/Jimmy Jacobs on the indies.
Besides Wrestling, what else do you watch?
* Scrubs, 30 Rock, Metalocalypse, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Beavis & Butthead, Attack! Of the Show, X-Play, things like that.
Favorite Movie(s)/Game(s)?
* Movies would be The Rules of Attraction, The Dark Knight, Donnie Darko, Tommy Boy, Waiting…, and The Breakfast Club. Games would be the InFAMOUS series, most of the WWE games, Mortal Kombat, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City, and Borderlands.
What are your Pet Peeves?
* Passive-aggressiveness. I hate it when people are obviously saying something that’s going to offend you or at least annoy you, but they try to do it in a way that they think you’ll think is okay just because of the way they say it. If anything, your patronizing passive-aggressive bullshit just makes me hate you more.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
* Hopefully 10 years older and just a tiny bit wiser.
Who is your favorite GFX Artist?
* The guy who plays Alexander Monroe/Christian Carnage. Crazy GFX skills on that guy.
